Fantastic vid!! Your editing of the clips was really terrific. I really liked the scenes that you chose for each section of the song... especially the parts where Sam is grasping his head in pain - very intense. I also loved the episode that you chose for this vid, it's one of my favorites!! Great job! Thanks so much for sharing it with all of us. xx

Thank you so much! And Nightmare is one of my favorite episodes too. There's so much cool imagery, I knew I had to do an episodic vid to it as soon as it aired (and I've been working on it since then, lol).

Eeeeeep. I LOVE IT. Wow, I'm so impressed with how quickly you got this done after we last talked! I think it's perfectly fine as is, I really wouldn't have had much to say as a beta :)

Blow by blow...

I love the timing of the whole instrumental part. It's not explicitly timed to the beats, but it just works with the feel of the music.

That three cut I pointed out before is right on now, as I'm sure you know :)

I really liked your solution to the overlaid clip that was bothering you - substituting the quick flash to Max's eyes was very effective.

The pricking of the tear on "more" works beautifully, and I like the subtle flash there.

Oooh. "A special place of my design." and you have him killing his stepmom - that just works so well, because he's trying to shape the world to his liking, and... yeah.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the triple quick zoom in thingy you do, starting at 1:46, it's AWESOME. Subtle and not in your face but very dynamic and awesome. You rock, girlfriend.

What is that kind of flashy fade thing you do? Like at 2:04, for example, where the image is highlighted briefly before fading to another? It's a really cool effect.

I like in the whole bridge part, the alternation of the building suspense of the window with them running to try to stop it... it matches the music perfectly, the driving intensity contrasted with the slower but building stuff.

Max superimposed on the closing windows is just cool.

I like that the loudest "screaming fans" (that is what he's saying, right?) falls on Sam yelling NOOO! Very apt ^_^

I very much like the text over Dean closing the door.

Basically, you rock sweetie! *smooches* Yay!
Sarah: SN Jensen DORK![info]ringwench on April 10th, 2006 10:42 pm (UTC)
*smooches back* I'm so happy you liked it!

The flashy fade transition is called an additive dissolve. I wanted to kinda copy the effect they used on the show to transition between shots in Sam's premonitions.

Oh, and the line is "screaming fits", actually. I thought it was "fans" too when I first heard the song, and it bugged me because it really wouldn't have fit in the vid. But once I looked up the lyrics and figured out what he was actually saying it made a lot more sense in the context of the episode.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it and thanks SO much for the in-depth feedback :-)

This was beautiful! I love the beat you kept through it all and the order in which you told the story while keeping with the lyrics, and the way you zoomed in with the beat. Lovely work as usual hun! I'm really happy!! :D

This totally deserves way more feedback than I can give right now. For now I'll just say I'll never know how you can take a single episode and make it beautiful like this. *blinks dumbly and waits to be taught* Expect more feedback later this week. :D

Hi sweetheart, I finally got my editstudio 5 today and I've been having a little play with it and was wondering if you could possibly help me with it at all.

The main issue I'm having is with the quality of the avi file I'll drag it onto the timeline and the box at the bottom that allows you to preview it, the quality is terrible and jumpy. I have very little memory left about 300 - 500 mb, is this the reason do you think?

I'm sorry to bother you but I have no idea where to begin I've been on the editstudio forum but I don't have a manual or anything telling me where to start. Did you work the program out yourself or did you find a tutorial, I'm just having the hardest time with it and would love to make something special.

Sorry to bother you and thankyou petal.

Charli x
Charli[info]mrscutedean on May 30th, 2006 04:50 pm (UTC)
Ok I think the issue is the codec, the divx codec is a nightmare and the divx icon keeps popping up it appears to hate all my files. Did you have any issues with this at all?
Sarah[info]ringwench on May 30th, 2006 05:38 pm (UTC)
I had MAJOR issues with the divx/xvid codec. I hate it with a fiery passion. I can't even get the downloaded SPN eps to open in my editing software. They will either crash the program immediately, or just display as 40 minutes of black screen. Very frustrating. I actually wound up having to re-encode ALL of my SPN eps so they would be compatible with my editing software. I used stoik video converter (it's a free download) and encoded them into a different AVI format (mpeg4 video setting and PCM audio). The only problem with this is that it results in files that are about twice the size of the original eps. So if you don't have a lot of harddrive space that could be a problem. There is virtually no quality loss when you do it that way though.

As for the Divx logo, all you have to do to get that to stop popping up on all of your files is to go into the settings on your divx player, there should be an option to turn the logo off.

I don't actually use edit studio, so I probably can't help you with anything specific to that program (I use Adobe Premiere myself), but the jumpiness can definitely be related to memory (if it's not a codec problem that is). My computer is lacking in the memory department as well and sometimes I have that problem. I would suggest you try to actually render a video with it to see if the jumpiness is only effecting the preview or if it's actually part of your final product. I know with Adobe (and this is something that I didn't figure out until I had plodded my way through about 7 vids in Premiere) sometimes the preview window will show things (like lines, pixelations, jumpiness) that will not actually show up in your final product, as the preview generally uses a different codec than a rendered vid would.

Hope this helps! If I can help you with anything else don't hesitate to ask :-)
Charli[info]mrscutedean on May 30th, 2006 05:54 pm (UTC)
Thanks a lot hun, I will try that out. Sorry to bother you with all this it was Wistful Fever who had this program, I forgot, but thankyou so much for your advice. God I HATE divx.
